Photos are useful tools to help capture memories and inspire people to act. For example, event photographers help build buzz for an organization and attract funders.
I've photographed community members for public health events, concerts, graduation photos, personal portraits, and more! Check out some photo projects I've worked on.
Commemorating World Malaria Day 2023 on Capitol Hill
Commemorating World Malaria Day 2023 on Capitol Hill
On April 26, 2023, U.S. Global Malaria Coordinator Dr. David Walton joined congressional leaders and global health champions on Capitol Hill to commemorate World Malaria Day.
I took and edited the photos, coordinated with hosting organizations, and created social media posts before, during, and after the event. Check out this blog post I created for the U.S. President's Malaria Initiative website with more photos and details about the event.
More Events
From walks to raise awareness of suicide to cultural events to decrease stigma, photos increase funding, help increase attendance, and promote social cohesion.
Photography and Memory Project
"Despite being from such different backgrounds, we were able to share our experiences and connect in an epidemic which seems marked by disconnection."
In March 2020, I joined the University of Denver's Photography and Memory Project, which connects older adults with college students. I met and interviewed Jim Walker over many video calls, where we discussed our favorite photographs, reflected on life, and connected in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.
I published writing and photographs for the Project's journal here (see pages 36-39) and appear in the documentary below. This work was also part of the 2021 Community Spotlight exhibit at the Denver Art Museum.
